Journal of Nuclear Medicine Impact Factor Jumps More than Seven Percent

June 29, 2020

RESTON, Virginia – The Journal of Nuclear Medicine has achieved the highest impact factor ever in its 6o-year history, ranking fourth among all medical journals worldwide, according to new data just released in the 2019 Journal Citation Reports by Clarivate Analytics. JNM is the flagship publication of the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging.

JNM’s impact factor increased more than 7%, from 7.354 (2018) to 7.887 (2019). With 26,844 citations total, the journal ranked fourth in impact factor among all 133 journals included in the medical imaging category. JNM’s immediacy index is 2.386, third highest in the category. Among nuclear medicine journals, JNM has the highest total citations, 5-year impact factor, immediacy index, Eigenfactor score and article influence score.

“Thanks to our creative and hard-working team of associate editors, committed editorial board, excellent reviewers, outstanding JNM staff and the high-quality contributions by scientists from around the globe for this significant increase in JNM’s impact factor,” said Editor-in-Chief Johannes Czernin, MD, professor of molecular and medical pharmacology and chief of the Ahmanson Translational Theranostics Division at the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine, Los Angeles, California. “Due to their tireless efforts, JNM ranks among the most prominent medical imaging journals published today.”

The impact factor—a quantitative measure of the frequency with which an article in a journal is cited—is used to gauge the overall influence of a journal within scientific, professional and academic communities. The immediacy index is an indicator of the speed with which citations to a specific journal appear in published literature.
