How does USP <797> affect the use of 82Rb generator(s) in the imaging room?
Because the eluate is directly administered to the patient, USP <797> does not apply.
USP <797> does not specially address the air environment for storage and elution of an 82Rb generator. However, one should try to meet the recommendation or requirements for the storage and use of the 82Rb generator as stated in the package insert of the generator.
Because USP <797> explicitly states that "The standards in this chapter do not pertain to the clinical administration of CSPs to patients...," one may also interpret that the use of an 82Rb generator, in which the eluate is directly administered to a patient, is exempt from USP <797> .
