SNMMI is Celebrating Pride Month June 2021
SNMMI is proud to recognize and support our LGBTQ+ members with Pride Month celebrations throughout June! At SNMMI, we are committed to celebrating diversity and championing an inclusive, safe, and welcoming environment that respects each member of our professional and patient community. SNMMI is working to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion throughout the organization and encourages all nuclear medicine and molecular imaging professionals to actively participate in these efforts.
Why We Celebrate: Pride Month is celebrated in June to commemorate the 1969 Stonewall Uprising in Manhattan. Police raided a gay club in Greenwich Village, and this raid resulted in a six-day protest to support open expression of sexual orientation and gender identity without fear of arrest or violence. The 1970 Pride March has evolved into a month-long celebration for the entire LGBTQ+ community (and allies) to promote visibility and acceptance. President Bill Clinton officially established June as "Gay and Lesbian Pride Month" in 2000, and in 2011 President Barack Obama increased inclusivity by proclaiming June “Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Pride Month.” Pride marches and celebrations now take place worldwide and represent the acceptance of a growing spectrum of sexuality and gender identity. We are proud to join organizations and businesses around the globe in supporting LGBTQ+ individuals in our community.

SNMMI wants to take the opportunity presented by Pride Month to recognize the LGBTQ+ members within SNMMI, as well as the LGBTQ+ patients we serve. All members are invited to take part in our Pride Month celebrations through the following outlets:
Share Your Pride! SNMMI has created several Pride Month graphics for your convenience, including cover photos for Facebook and Twitter as well as social media posts. Click here to access these graphics. Graphics are available for LGBTQ+ members as well as allies wanting to show their pride and support
Show Your Pride! SNMMI has created a custom Facebook profile frame for both LGBTQ+ members and allies to display throughout June. Simply search SNMMI when choosing a frame and select LGBTQ+ or ALLY to add to your photo. *Expires July 1
LGBTQ+ Inclusive Gathering! The DE&I Task Force is hosting an LGBTQ+ Inclusive Gathering networking event—Wednesday, June 23 at 8pm (ET). Inclusive Gatherings are informal meet-ups where individuals can chat with their fellow SNMMI members. Attendees are welcome to attend the events in their entirety or to just stop in to say hello. LGBTQ+ members and allied members are encouraged to attend. Register now! * As the Inclusive Gatherings are meant to be social, CE credit will not be offered.
