SNMMI PR Campaign Lands Stories in Major Media Markets

SNMMI’s consumer-focused public relations initiative to raise awareness about what nuclear medicine is and what it can accomplish has seen continued success in the past few months. Top placements from the past few months include:

NBC Affiliates Around the U.S.

NBC affiliates in San Francisco, Chicago, Boston, Washington, DC, and Los Angeles ran stories about nuclear medicine and prostate cancer for Prostate Cancer Awareness Month in September. The stories featured 5 prostate cancer patients telling about their experiences with nuclear medicine therapy and imaging, with SNMMI President Munir Ghesani, MD, providing background. One more story in this series is expected to run in New York.

Q104.3 Radio Interview

New York-based radio station Q104.3 hosted SNMMI president Munir Ghesani, MD, FACNM, FACR, as a guest on its issues-based talk show, “Sonstein Sundays” on July 21, 2022. During the segment Ghesani spoke with host Shelli Sonstein about nuclear medicine and molecular imaging, touching on COVID imaging, the link between sleep apnea and heart disease, and the latest in prostate cancer radiopharmaceutical therapies.

District Life Television Segment

DCTV, the public access channel of Washington, DC, featured a segment on nuclear medicine and prostate cancer on its “District Life” segment on July 12. The segment featured prostate cancer advocates and veterans, Mike Crosby and Harry DePollar, who spoke about how nuclear medicine helped them in the journey with prostate cancer. SNMMI immediate past-president Richard Wahl, MD, FACR, FACNM, FSNMMI, was also featured on the segment.

The initiative, which kicked off in fall 2021, has reached media markets across the country, with steadily increasing success. By focusing on consumer broadcast media—TV, radio, print and digital news publications—SNMMI has been able to reach a very broad audience, including patients, referring physicians, legislators, regulators, payers, and other media.
