Reston, Va. (October 15, 2021) – The Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging (SNMMI) is pleased to announce the recipient of the 2021-2023 SNMMI Wagner-Torizuka Fellowship. This two-year fellowship, founded in 2008 by the late Henry N. Wagner, Jr., MD, and the late Kanji Torizuka, MD, PhD, is designed to provide extensive training and experience in the fields of nuclear medicine and molecular imaging for Japanese physicians in the early stages of their careers.
Yoshito Kadoya, MD, PhD, assistant professor in the department of cardiovascular medicine at Kyoto Prefectural University of Medicine in Kyoto, Japan has been named the 2021-2023 Wagner-Torizuka fellow. Kadoya’s research focuses on the potential of nuclear medicine in the realm of interventional cardiology for structural heart disease. He will study in the University of Ottawa Herat Institute Cardiac Imaging Program in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, under the supervision of Benjamin Chow, MD. As the 2021-2023 Wagner-Torizuka fellow, Kayoda will receive an annual stipend of $24,000 (US).
“We are very pleased to welcome Dr. Kadoya to North America as he begins his fellowship,” said Vasken Dilsizian, MD, FSNMMI, past president and chair of the SNMMI Awards Committee. “As with all of the fellows, we hope that the professional development, research and clinical expertise that he gains as a result of this program will equip him to make significant contributions to the field of nuclear medicine and molecular imaging in Japan.”
The SNMMI Wagner-Torizuka Fellowship program, sponsored by Nihon Medi-Physics Co., Ltd., in Japan, has successfully graduated 33 fellows since its inauguration in 2008; currently, three fellows are studying at host institutions across the United States.
