Women in Medicine: Trailblazers, Advocates, Leaders

September 5 is Women in Medicine Day and SNMMI is excited to join the American Medical Association (AMA) in celebrating Women in Medicine Month throughout September!

We will be honoring this year’s theme, “Women in Medicine: Trailblazers, Advocates, Leaders,” all month long, recognizing the achievements, contributions, and trailblazing efforts of women in our nuclear medicine and molecular imaging community. The field of nuclear medicine and molecular imaging has an impressive lineage of women pioneers, and we look forward to celebrating women currently working in this exciting specialty over the next few weeks.

We hope you’ll join the Women in Nuclear Medicine (WINM) Committee in participating in Women in Medicine Month activities designed to grow, empower, and support our network of women in nuclear medicine, including:

WINM Webinar. On September 30, the WINM Committee is putting on a special webinar, “Power of the Pack— How to Support and Collaborate with Fellow Women to Improve Success.” Panelists will discuss how they use association membership to advance their career. Speakers include Carolyn Anderson, PhD; Elizabeth Hawk, MD, PhD, DABR, DABNM; Heather Jacene, MD; Dusty York, CNMT, PET, RT(N)(CT); and Crystal Botkin, PhD, MPH, CNMT, PET, FSNMMI-TS. Register now.

Social Media Highlights. Follow SNMMI on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook this month as we publicize women in medicine using the hashtags #WIMmonth (Women in Medicine Month) and #WINM (Women in Nuclear Medicine). Show your support for Women in Medicine Day by posting photos of yourself at work and with other women from the field throughout September (and don’t forget #WIMmonth #WINM)!

Networking on SNMMI Connect. Join the Women in Nuclear Medicine community on SNMMI Connect to discuss issues unique to women in the profession, connect with your fellow members, and share your experiences. Connect now.

The WINM Recruitment Challenge. Help grow our WINM community in SNMMI by recruiting two other women to join SNMMI this month. If every woman member of SNMMI participates, together we could recruit 13,870 new members into our WINM network! And if you tell them to use the URL www.snmmi.org/10winm, they can save 10% on their member dues when they join by September 30.

SNMMI Spotlight Submissions. Is there a woman you admire within SNMMI? Nominate her for the SNMMI Member Spotlight and she could be showcased on the Society's social media channels! Submit your nomination.

Donating to Women in Leadership Initiatives. Show your support for women in nuclear medicine by contributing to the ERF Madame Marie Curie Fund for women in leadership. This fund was created to help women advance to major administrative positions in academia (chairs of departments, deans, etc.) and/or leadership positions within a professional society such as SNMMI. Click here to donate.
