SNMMI Submits Comments on CMS Proposed Decision Memo for NaF-18 PET

October 16, 2015

On October 16, 2015, SNMMI submitted comments to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, disagreeing strongly with the proposed conclusion, that in this instance, the data available are affirmatively sufficient to determine that 18F-NaF PET is not a reasonable and necessary medical service. These comments, submitted jointly with the American College of Nuclear Medicine and the American College of Radiology, were in response to a request from the National Oncologic PET Registry Working Group to reconsider a national coverage policy for positron emission tomography to identify bone metastasis of cancer.
