The Cardiovascular Council of the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging would like to congratulate Robert Beanlands, MD as the 2013 recipient of the Hermann Blumgart Award.

Dr. Beanlands is a longstanding member of the SNMMI who has participated regularly in the educational programs of the society. He also has served as a member of the Board of Directors of the CVC and has been one of the CVC voices within the nuclear cardiology community in Canada.

At his current institution at the University of Ottawa Dr. Beanlands serves as Professor of Divisions of Cardiology and Radiology, as well as Chief of Cardiology, and Director Molecular Function and Imaging Program, and Chief of Cardiac Imaging. He also serves as the Director of the National Cardiac PET Centre in Canada. He completed his medical training at the University of Ottawa and has been certified as a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (FRCPC) in Internal Medicine and Cardiology.

Dr. Beanlands has made many contributions to advancement of cardiovascular nuclear medicine both in the pre-clinical and clinical arena, and remains a leader in the area of cardiovascular PET imaging.  He is an international leader in cardiovascular nuclear imaging, contributing expertise in particular for the application of PET to evaluate metabolic and cellular function in cardiovascular disease and responses to therapy.

His numerous accomplishments and dedication to the field of nuclear cardiology made him an outstanding candidate (and recipient) of this prestigious award.
