CARE Act

The Consistency, Accuracy, Responsibility, and Excellence in Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy (CARE) Act would require those who perform medical imaging and radiation therapy procedures to meet minimum education and credentialing standards in order to receive Medicare reimbursement. In the 113th Congress, the CARE Act has been introduced as H.R. 1146 by Rep. Ed Whitfield (KY-1) and as S. 642 by Senator Mike Enzi (WY).

Multiple Procedure Payment Reduction

Due to perceived overutilization of diagnostic imaging services, MedPAC and CMS have worked to control imaging growth through reimbursement cuts that impose a Multiple Procedure Payment Reduction (MPPR) to multiple diagnostic imaging services administered by the same physician, to the same patient, during a single office visit.
