Appropriate Use Criteria for Musculoskeletal Infection Imaging

To improve utilization and guide providers to use Musculoskeletal Infection Imaging in a more appropriate way, the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging (SNMMI) and the American College of Nuclear Medicine (ACNM) will collaboratively develop criteria for the appropriate use of this imaging technology.

SNMMI assembled an autonomous Musculoskeletal Infection Imaging Workgroup to represent a multidisciplinary panel of health care providers with substantive knowledge in the use of nuclear medicine procedures in musculoskeletal infection imaging to review the scientific literature and develop consensus recommendations for the clinical use of this technology. The Oregon Health Science University's (OHSU) Evidence-based Practice Center (EPC) will conduct a systematic review of existing evidence based on the scope and parameters the Musculoskeletal Infection Imaging Workgroup put together, which they will use to make their recommendations for clinical use.
