SNMMI and Coalition Partners Re-Engage Grassroots Efforts

July 23, 2020

SNMMI has kept up the momentum since its Annual Meeting. On July 16, the Health Policy and Regulatory Affairs (HPRA) and Outreach departments co-hosted a patient advocacy webinar on how to be an effective patient advocate for H.R. 3772, the “Medicare Diagnostic Radiopharmaceutical Payment Equity Act of 2019.” The bill, which was introduced on July 16, 2019, was referred to the Committee on Energy and Commerce in addition to the Committee on Ways and Means and is still in committee. Thus, SNMMI and its partners in the Appropriate Payment Coalition (The Council on Radionuclides and Radiopharmaceuticals (CORAR) and the Medical Technology Alliance (MITA)) have launched a new grassroots effort, along with virtual fly-ins, to obtain a Senate companion bill.

During the webinar, Sukhjeet Ahuja, MD (SNMMI HPRA), guided the group on the basics and value of nuclear medicine. Linda Budzinski (SNMMI Outreach) and Sue Bunning (MITA) spoke on the regulatory and legislative history of the bill and coalition efforts so far. Christina Arenas (SNMMI HPRA) and Josh Mailman (SNMMI & NorCal CarciNET) described how patient advocates can help the coalition and briefed the group on what to say at virtual fly-ins and when phoning a member of Congress. The webinar video and slides are now available for viewing.

With the end of the current legislative session fast approaching, we need your help!
