Concussion researcher nets $25M for CTE program

June 12, 2017

Noted concussion researcher Dr. Julian Bailes has been awarded new grant funding of up to $25 million for research on traumatic brain injury (TBI) and chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), according to an announcement on Sunday at the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging (SNMMI) meeting in Denver.

Bailes was featured in the film "Concussion" and was instrumental in understanding the clinical evidence of CTE, according to the SNMMI. M1 Capital and Nucleus Bio are working with the SNMMI to fund the grants, which are part of a new effort called Brain Scanning to Assess for Traumatic Injury and Encephalopathy (SAFTIE). The Brain SAFTIE group gathered for the first time at a May symposium organized by the SNMMI's Clinical Trials Network and supported by Nucleus Bio.
