2014 Hermann Blumgart Award Winner

The Cardiovascular Council (CVC) of the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging would like to congratulate Vasken Dilsizian, MD as the 2014 recipient of the Hermann Blumgart Award.

The Hermann Blumgart Award is the highest award and honor bestowed by the Cardiovascular Council.  The election by the Board of Directors of the CVC is based on criteria of both scientific contributions to the field of cardiovascular  nuclear medicine and service to the Council.

2014 Hermann Blumgart Award Winner

Dr. Dilsizian is Professor of Radiology and Medicine at the University of Maryland School of Medicine and Chief, Division of Nuclear Medicine at the Medical Center.  He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Nuclear Medicine, Internal Medicine, and Cardiovascular Diseases. Dr. Dilsizian’s academic career, scientific contributions, and service to the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging (SNMMI) expand over two decades.  Dr. Dilsizian is considered to be one of the leading investigators in the field of Cardiovascular Nuclear Imaging, Myocardial Viability and Left Ventricular Remodeling in Heart Failure.  His research efforts both in clinical trials and experimental studies in radiotracer development over the past 25 years have culminated into over 170 original, peer-reviewed manuscripts and invited editorials/articles, 9 monographs, and 34 book chapters.   Over the years, Dr. Dilsizian has served on numerous Boards and committees of the SNMMI including, President of the Cardiovascular Council and member of the SNMMI Board of Directors and House of Delegates.

Dr. Dilsizian's Blumgart Award Lecture was entitled "Scientific Progress Through the Guidance and Wisdom of Mentors", and was a reflective and appreciative review of how his success has been nurtured by the many supportive professionals and pioneers he encountered along a career that began as an elective at the NIH while an intern at Georgetown University.
