SNMMI Supports NIH Funding for 2018

SNMMI and the Ad Hoc Group for Medical Research, is very pleased that lawmakers increased the National Institutes of Health (NIH) budget for the remainder of FY 2017 starting in May of this year.  It was a bipartisan, bicameral effort. If the United States is to continue to accelerate the development of life-changing diagnoses and cures it is essential to ensure strong, predictable funding increases across the full spectrum of NIH-supported research. In FY 2018, the Ad Hoc Group recommends an increase of at least $2 billion above FY 2017 for NIH, in addition to funds included in the 21st Century Cures Act for targeted initiatives. Giving the NIH a reliable, robust budget trajectory will be key in positioning the agency – and the patients who rely on it – to capitalize on the full range of research. SNMMI will be calling on members to contact their legislators as this budget moves through the legislative process.
